From the BGHS Feb 2011 calendar Blessing of the Boats in Cheekpoint

Blessing of the Boats in Cheekpoint

This is a rare post card photograph of the blessing of the boats in Cheekpoint. Notice the number of people kneeling on the quayside and the fishermen standing in their punts to receive the blessing. This tradition of standing in the boats for the blessing has been maintained down to the present time. However only one man was observed standing in his boat for the 2010 blessing. The photo was sent to Andrew Doherty by Brian Moran and family relatives of Andrew from Long Island. Andrew tells us that Brian's grandfather, Richie Moran , left Cheekpoint in the late 1920's and went to Long Island where his family has remained since.
