In Griffith’s valuation of 1847 - 1864 the area of the cemetery is just over 9 acres. In the 1901 census there are 41 people living in Ballynaneashagh in 5 families. In the 1911 census there are 31 people living in Ballynaneashagh in 5 families.
At least 2 of the 1901 families are not living there in 1911 and in both census there are a lot of people living in Ballynaneashagh who were born in either Kilkenny or Wexford. In the 1911 census there is one family with two of its members working as cemetery caretakers.
Canon Patrick Power, the Gaultier historian who was born in the townland of Callaghane on 8 March 1862 was buried in Ballynaneashagh after he died on 16 October 1951.
It is part of the Civil Parish of Kilbarry, which is one of the Civil Parishes of the Barony of Gaultier. Ballynaneashagh has an area 0.52 square miles /1.3454 km square with 332 acres. It borders the following townlands:
Ballybeg (Gaultier) to the south Ballycashin (Middlethird) to the west Butlerstown North (Middlethird) to the west Butlerstown South (Middlethird) to the west Kilbarry (Gaultier) to the east Lisduggan (Middlethird) to the east Big Lismore (Middlethird) to the west Skibbereen (Middlethird) to the north
