Woodstown Ladies Cricket Club
In 1988, two ladies Valerie Moloney and Lelia Collins decided to start a ladies’ cricket team at Woodstown. The team was called the Woodstown Cricket Club. The younger players received tremendous support from sisters Grace Flanagan and Mickie Purcell whose mother, Mrs Clarke from Ballinakill House was a player with the Waterford Ladies Club in the 1940’s... Other members of the original Woodstown team not in the photo were Hilary Farrell, Betatrice Berclazand and Maeve Phelan. The first coach to the team was John Burke. A great supporter of the Woodstown Cricket Club was Mrs Coughlan from the Saratoga Bar. Adie Coughlan of the Saratoga Bar donated a special trophy for when they played the ladies from the neighbouring county of Wexford. It was named the Saratoga Cup. The ladies from the model county won and the Saratoga Cup is somewhere in Wexford now
