In
1913 Matthew Butler’s History of the Barony of Gaultier was published in
Waterford. For a twenty year period
covering the 1930s to the 1950s Butler wrote a column for the Waterford News
entitled Rambles in Gaultier. To
commemorate all this The Waterford News and Star will publish throughout 2013 a weekly column based on
Butler’s work entitled Rambles in Gaultier – Then and Now. The articles will be contributed by
the Barony of Gaultier Historical Society and will be edited for the News and
Star by Society member, Ray McGrath.
Because Butler includes in his description of Gaultier parts of Waterford
City, and in view of the upcoming administrative amalgamation of City and
County , we thought it fitting to include the Gaultier parts of the city in
this celebration.
